How it Works
Anyone with a SNAP/EBT card with active balance is eligible for Double Up Food Bucks Arizona – no separate application is required.
When customers spend $1 with SNAP at participating locations, they get $1 FREE to spend on fruits & veggies, dried beans, and edible plants and seeds with Double Up Food Bucks.
It’s easy! Learn how it works at different sites below:
Farmers Markets
- Customers bring their SNAP Quest/EBT card to a Double Up farmers market location.
- Customers purchase SNAP-eligible groceries like fruits, vegetables, bread, dairy, meat, and dried beans. There is no daily limit on SNAP purchases.

Community FAQ
How do I get started?
Double Up shoppers need to participate in the SNAP program. SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. You might also hear the program called EBT or food/nutrition assistance, formerly known as “food stamps.” Arizona Department of Economic Security processes applications through their online portal as well as in-person at offices across the state. You may apply for nutrition assistance by clicking here, or calling 855-432-7587.
Once you’re a SNAP participant, all you need to do is bring your EBT card with active balance to a participating Double Up location. Staff on site will assist you with using your benefits. Click here to see how it works at different kinds of locations.
What can customers buy with SNAP versus Double Up?
Double Up Food Bucks dollars can buy fresh, Arizona-grown fruits and vegetables. This includes cactus fruit, tepary beans, and many other desert-adapted foods. Double Up Food Bucks also can be used to buy dried beans without added ingredients, fresh herbs, and plants and seeds that produce food.
SNAP/EBT benefits can be used to buy any eligible food item, except for hot and ready-to-eat items. This includes fruits and vegetables, dairy products, eggs, baked goods, frozen to-go foods, and meats. SNAP dollars can also be used to buy seeds and plants that produce food.
What if I don’t qualify for SNAP?
If you haven’t applied for SNAP in a while, you might consider applying to see if your situation has changed. You can also contact Arizona Food Bank Network to find food in your community.
Do you double WIC?
WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is here to help. Please visit the AZFMNP site to find details about farmers market coupons that are available for families actively participating in WIC program. With FMNP coupons, customers can buy fresh Arizona grown produce at approved farmers markets.
What programs do you have for seniors?
Please visit the AZFMNP site to find details about the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). Why don’t you have a Double Up location near me?

Why is Double Up only for fruits and vegetables?
We know that fruits and vegetables are under-consumed by Americans of all income levels. As a permanent part of the Farm Bill, USDA NIFA’s FINI/GusNIP program was created to help fix that.
How do I cook and store the produce I buy?
While you’re at the farmers market, talk with your farmer about their favorite ways to eat and store the fruits and vegetables they’ve grown for you. You can also find cooking and budgeting tips on AZ Health Zone. If you need help with tools for your home kitchen, check out the Pots to Love program.
